Welcoming the announcement from the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero that the Government will work with industry, unions and trade bodies to train up a 'clean power army' to hit the UK's targets for clean power by 2030, RenewableUK's Head of Skills Scott Young said:
“We’re expecting to see an enormous rise in clean energy jobs in the coming years, with potentially over 100,000 jobs in offshore wind alone by the end of the decade. These exciting roles will be very diverse in the nature, ranging from project development, to construction, financing, wind farm maintenance and surveying. They’ll also be spread across the country, in coastal towns like Grimsby, Lowestoft and Barrow where we can already see hubs of industry, as well as major cities like Glasgow and Edinburgh.
“There’s a real consensus and understanding of the critical roles we need to support the energy transition in the coming years, so we welcome the ambition of Government to ensure that the opportunity to secure those jobs is spread across the country. We’ll be working closely with Government, trade unions, training providers and job centres to enable new entrants, career switchers, and those out of the labour market to benefit from the growing industrial clusters in renewable energy.”
