Offshore Transmission

Working to address barriers to building a grid that can support high quantities offshore wind

Overview

The grid needs updating to meet the demands of a new energy system dominated by renewable power. Offshore grid is becoming more complex, and will require developers and other grid stakeholders to deliver a coordinated offshore network as efficiently as possible.

The UK’s grid needs to build 5 times as infrastructure much by 2030 as it has in the last 30 years. Meanwhile, approximately 50 % of the transmission network requires upgrades or replacement by 2035. As a result, there is a large and growing queue of upcoming grid projects that need to be delivered.
